Pond, a mirror you can step into
"I clearly remember the first thing I photographed after buying my first camera: a scene reflected in a puddle on the road after the rain. It was so beautiful that it seemed even more fascinating than the real landscape. It felt like looking into a pond, as if I were about to step inside. I wanted to create a mirror like that."
— Nao Iwamatsu
Inspired by this memory, Pond reinterprets the archetype of the mirror as a three-dimensional object. Conceived as an open box with a circular or oval opening on its front face, its structure invites the viewer to look beyond the reflective surface. Fully mirrored internal walls multiply reflections and perspectives, creating an ever-changing perception of space that evolves with the viewer’s point of view.
An integrated lower ledge provides a discreet place for small personal objects, adding function without compromising the purity of the form.
Pond is available with or without integrated lighting. In the illuminated version, light enhances the mirrored internal surfaces and further amplifies the sense of depth and reflection.
Available in different sizes and also in a fully mirrored version, Pond adapts to a variety of settings while preserving its distinctive identity.
Like all RIPA pieces, each Pond is marked with a plate bearing its serial number and year of production, a testament to its origin and direct connection to the workshop where it is made.
